Why renew on time

Keep your brand protected without a gap

In most countries, a trademark registration lasts 10 years and can be renewed again and again for further 10-year periods. As long as you keep renewing, your exclusive rights can last indefinitely.

If a renewal is missed, the mark can be removed from the register. Competitors could then use or register a similar mark, and restoring your rights can be costly or impossible. We track your dates and file in good time, so your brand stays protected.

Know your renewal window

Each country sets its own renewal window and grace period.

In India, a renewal can be filed up to one year before the registration expires. A six-month grace period with a surcharge applies after expiry, and restoration may be possible within one year of expiry.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does a trademark registration last?
In most countries, including India, the United States and the European Union, a registration lasts 10 years and can be renewed for further 10-year periods, as many times as you like.
When can I renew my trademark?
It depends on the country. In India you can file up to one year before expiry. In the United States the renewal window is the year before the 10-year anniversary of registration. At the EU Intellectual Property Office you can renew within six months before expiry.
What happens if I miss the renewal deadline?
Many countries allow a grace period after expiry, usually six months, in which you can still renew by paying a surcharge. After that the mark can be removed from the register. Some countries, including India, allow restoration within a limited time, but it is more complex and not guaranteed.
Do I need to prove that I am using the trademark?
Some countries require it. In the United States, for example, a declaration of use must be filed together with the renewal. Most other countries, including India, do not ask for proof of use at renewal.
Can I update the owner's name or address when renewing?
Yes. If the owner's name, address or ownership has changed, the change usually needs to be recorded with the trademark office, ideally before or together with the renewal. We handle these updates for you.
What do you need from me to renew?
The registration number, the country, the current owner's details and, if you have it, a copy of the registration certificate. Send them through the form above or email us, and our team will take it from there.
